The Clear member is called after each event has been read and prior to the first event. The Philips modules do not allow you to programmatically clear them without destroying the software settings since as the manual says:
"f9 at any subaddress: Clears the Module. Resets front end, clears and disables LAM, disables pedestals and thresholds. ..."
The modules do have a front panel clear input that clears only any the latched data. That's the appropriate way to clear these modules. Since many modules have a front panel clear, the NSCL Data acquisition system sends a NIM pulse on an output module as well as calling all segments Clear() members. If you are using the VME trigger subsystem, this clear output is available at SHP3 on the CAENV262 used as the trigger module. If you are using the CAMAC trigger subsystem, outputs 1-8 of the BiRa NIM output module in Branch 0, Crate 2, Slot 19 present these clear outputs. See: The section on setting up the electronics in: http://docs.nscl.msu.edu/daq/ProductionReadout/Manual/.
