The basic idea is that the system maintains a directory named /experiment/current that contains all data associated with the active run. These data can be file that are created and maintained by the data acquisition system software, or they can be arbitrary files and links that you create.
When a run ends, a new directory /experiment/runn is created. This new directory will be a snapshot of all the data in the current directory at the time the run ended.
